Athens taxicabs
We are arriving on a cruise ship Mid May and plan to take a taxicab from the pier to the Acropolis, walk it and the Plaka to Syntagma Square. Then hail a taxicab back to the pier....any problems in doing this and what tips do we need to know..?

Use the Metro, it's cheaper, €1 to Monastiraki, you are then just north of the Plaka/Acropolis area. See this map, http://www.cretetravel.com/Athens/At...Athens_map.htm If you then walk to Syntagma you can get on the Metro one stop to Monastiraki then change to get back to Piraeus or walk back to Monastiraki station (about5-10mins)
If you want to go by taxi just make sure they have the correct (daytime) meter on.

The only possible problem with taking the Metro from the port to Monastiraki is that the cruise ships are docked about 1/2 mile from the Metro Station. So unless there's a shuttle bus you can take you'll have to walk it. I seriously doubt if a taxi will agree to drive you 1/2 mile.

That's true BLL! I thought the distance wouldn't be too bad as no luggage to drag with you! Time is a factor too, if you disembark nice & early (which is usually the case) it's not too hot to walk then & might be quicker than a cab if you hit the morning rush hour!
Have both options in mind & decide on arrival.

Thanks people for your input this helps ...more questions..so are taxis available right outside of the cruise ship pier..? And how much do they typically cost for trip into Acropolis and back daytime rate...? I undertand that the nighttime meter reads "2" and that isn't what we want.
