Transferring at CDG - Luggage question

We will be taking an Air France flight from Nice to CDG and 2-3 hrs. after we arrive, taking an American Airlines flight to NYC. Should we be concerned about getting our luggage in time and re-checking it through to JFK? Or should we try for carry-on to CDG?

Why wouldn't you be checking it to NYC in Nice??

unless you have two separate tickets, your luggage will be checked through.

And even if you have separate tickets you can still get the bags checked through. Just ask them to do it.

Actually, there are two separate tickets, two separate airlines. We booked these flights separately. Even though we're heading home, it would still be nice to have a good chance of seeing our luggage when we arrive.
