trains: luggage capacity
#21
Thanks for clarification... that makes more sense (and sorry it happened).
I had just never heard of checking luggage on a train in Europe, and I don't think you do, is what had me wondering.

I never put a lock on my luggage either. Just put it on the rack with everyone else's and enjoy the ride. At major stops I go check on it...make sure it hasn't gotten shifted when others grabbed their bags. (Also an opportunity to keep an eye on it if you're nervous.)
ItalyLove: I'm not sure you ever said you were taking a 26". But, if you are, the size would be more a concern to me than where to store it. I can't imagine lugging a 26" suitcase on an Italian train...it hurts just thinking about it!

Rail platforms in Italy isn't very high, even for the ES*; so there are like 2-3 steps to get on. The doors aren't very wide either. So, if you have a heavy 26" suitcase, it IS difficult to get it on the train.

I must add: neither are the aisles very wide (in 2nd class).
Why do I mention this? Because we got on COACH 2 (of Car 12) when we were supposed to be in CAR 2. The train was pulling out so we had to roll our luggage all the way up the train through those narrow aisles. b-(
If I'd had a 26" I would have had to just leave it at the back of the train...LOL!
