train to Siena from Florence?

We drove to Siena on our last trip. However, cousins are going to Florence to visit their daughter who just started school there. I was pretty certain there would be a train to Siena. Anyone know or if bus would be the better option?

The trains leave every hour at 10 minutes after the hour. The trip takes 1h28 minutes. If I recall correctly, the Siena station is a bit outside of town but walkable -- anyway I have walked it.

There's a nonstop bus from Florence to Siena that puts you right in the town. It's quick and easy.

The station at Siena offers a shuttle bus from the station into the city centre - it cost a couple of euros each.

However, other threads have recommended the bus, as that will take you straight to the city centre.

Siena Mobilita is the website for busses in much of Tuscany (can't get the website to work at the moment to link). Most people consider the bus the better option as it's a bit faster than the train and drops you a very short walk from the campo. Be sure to take the rapido (bus 131R)as the other bus stops at Poggibonsi and takes longer. They depart hourly near the Florence train staion and drop in Siena at Piazza Gramsci. I think I paid 6€ in September. If traveling on a Sunday, you might do better taking the train as there aren't as many bus departures.

Hi Pam,

The SITA bus station in Florence is on Via Santa Caterina da Siena, a couple of blocks from the SMN station.

The bus stop in Siena is in the heart of town.

About 7E pp each way.
