Train or Plane

In july I'll be flying into munich. Our plan is to stay in germany for a week. Then take a train to Amsterdam. Then when we are done in Amsterdam we will be making our way to London. There will be 4 of us traveling together. Would it be better to take the trains to these places or flights? Thank You

depends on where in Germany you want to hop to Amsterdam from - Cologne then train is just a few hours and cheap

Munich much farther more expensive

flying Amsterdam-London -stansted whatever probably makes the best sense though you can take a ferry from Hook of Holland (near Rotterdam) to Harwich in England for train from there to London - can have some real bargain fares if book in advance.

Or of course train to Brussels then Eurostar train to London - takes about 6 hours all told but can be expensive unless you book a real cheap fare.

If you are taking trains much in Germany and training to Amsterdam then investigate the bargain-priced Germany-Benelux railpass (which would also get you a great 'passholder' fare on Brussels-London Eurostar trains

Hi K,

See www.bahn.de for trains from M to A.
There are 29E specials on the night train.

If I were taking the train, my choice would be the direct night train and I'd go for a four-bunk couchette for the four of you. Book as far in advance as possible to get SparNight fares.

The train-ferry-train combo from Amsterdam to London is known as the Dutchflyer. You have a choice of daytime or overnight travel. See www.dutchflyer.co.uk.
