Train -Munich airport to Salzburg

Thank you in advance to anyone who can tell me if the train station is close to the munich airport.

We will be taking the train from Munich to Salzburg on May 20,'07. I do not know which station (for salzburg)to enter when looking for the schedule. We will be staying in the old section of Salzburg.
Thank you - Starz

You take the S8 from the airport to the main station in Munich (about 30 mins) and get the train to Salzburg from there (about 1.5 hrs.) Enter Munich airport terminal when searching.

You will find the S Bahn station by going down the escalator at the Munich airport that is in the courtyard between the airport and the Kapinski. Simply walk outside and take the escalator down. There are signs at the airport and it is a very easy walk through the airport to the S Bahn station. Take the S Bahn to the Bahnhof, the main train station in Munich, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes. You will easily be able to get a train from Munich Baunhof to Salzburg. This is a very easy trip to make. Enjoy.

Hi starz41,

I did this trip a few years ago. Actually, you take the S-bahn to Muenchen Ost, not the main station, then connect to Salzburg from there. That saves you a little backtracking.

You can use www.bahn.de (then click on "international guests" for the English version) for your train connections. Just enter "Munich airport" and then "Salzburg," and it'll be clear and easy to follow.

Have fun!

If you buy a Bayern ticket, it will cover your travel (after 09:00) from the S-Bahn to Munich, and then a regional train to Salzburg. You might want to make the change at the Munich Hauptbanhof so you can wander around the huge station.

The train from the airport to Munich takes about 30 minutes.

when i took this train years ago, it had two sections - one went to Salzburg and one went to Berchesgarten - if that's still the case, make sure you get in the right car

If you decide to get the train at Munich East (Ost) where it is a bit easier to change than at the main station) try to take the S-8 rather than the S-1 since it will be a shorter ride from the airport.

Here's a link to the S-Bahn map
