Train from Barcelona to Perpignan

I'm planning to take the train from Barcelona to Perpignan, France, in mid-October. I've gone to the renfe web site, but it doesn't look like I can purchase tickets online. Has anyone done this?

We will be traveling mid-week and there appears to be an early morning train that arrives in Perpignan around noon. Do you think it's even necessary to purchase tickets in advance, or should we just wait till we arrive in Barcelona (two days earlier) to get the tickets?

Any advice?
Thanks.

We took the train last summer. I had purchased the tickets in advance with reserved seats I think on the eurorail website. The train was rather busy...especially 2nd class and all the seats in our 1st class car were taken. We went in Aug. though so Oct. probably won't be as busy. We did go on the early morning train. I am sure you could just purchase the tickets when you get to Barcelona two days in advance and would be ok.

I, too, think you can book your eats the day you reach Barcelona. If you are in Madrid before that then you can book them at any big railway station in Madrid.

Thanks for the advice.

Cparris, do you recall what you paid to take the train to Perpignan?

I think we will take our chances and wait until we arrive in Barcelona to purchase the train tickets.
