Trafalgar versus Globus Tours
I have toured in Europe several times with Globus Tours and have been wonderfully pleased and never disappointed. Having said that, they don't have a tour to France that I would like to take so a friend suggested Trafalgar Tours and I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has used them in the recent past. They do have a France tour with an itinerary that is perfect for what I and my partner are interested in seeing. Any and all feedback would be great! Thanks in advance for your time.

azangie,
I have travelled to Europe a few times each with both Globus and Trafalgar. From my experience, there is little difference. You do not say what part of France you and your friend want to see. May I suggest looking into an Insight tour (they are a step up from Trafalgar) that I took a few years ago – three days in Paris, three in Provence (Nimes), and four in Nice (French Riviera). The tour is well placed. Recall that France is a large country and can not be completely covered on any trip.
You will not find much enthusiasm on this board for any tour, however. Good luck and enjoy France…

Hi
Well I am both an enthusiastic independent and tour group traveller We used Trafalgar (budget) in 2001 and had no complaints. We have also used Cosmos twice and also Insight. They were all good but Insight was better given you paid more for superior food and accommodation. If you want a 5 star tour with more coach legroom than I second the vote for Insight.

Trafalgar and Globus are considered to be on a par...they are both called first class (although many North Americans view of what is first class is somewhat different than what they consider first class). So it's sort of luck of the draw; I mean you can have a bad experience with either for a plethora of reasons and swear never again or you can have a great experience with either and say they're the best. What I do find, and I don't know if this makes much of a difference, Globus tours generally draw in more North Americans while Trafalgar Tours are more international in scope. I suppose it is the way they budget their advertising..I enjoy the company of the many Aussies and Kiwis I've toured with on Trafalgar (not that North Americans are not fun to be with)...
Both Trafalgar and Globus have budget operations as you may or may not be aware of. Trafalgar's budget operation is called Cost Saver while Globus' is called Cosmos. They stay at cheaper hotels (they're all sure to be clean), are more likely to be somewhat further out from the main cities (although in the big cities you sometimes end up a bit out of the centre too) and a few more things included on their big brother operations are optional but you can save a bit of money and will see the same stuff.
Trafalgar's "deluxe" operation is called, as noted, Insight. Buses have more leg room, tours never go over 40 and they stay at what we would consider in North America as truly first class hotels.

I am looking at an Insight tour to Britain & Ireland for next fall.
I like Insight over the others for reasons mentioned. Smaller groups, more leg room, central and nicer hotels and more included in the package.
We are going to do France on our own before or after the tour!

We did a Globus for Scotland and were pleased. Pros- excellent guide, only 24 of us and the hotels were fine.
Cons- a huge amount of bus riding.
Did a Trafalgar at Christmas to Italy with two college age girls and thought it was cheap. Everything was extra. We did the tour because getting college girls moving on our own would have been a task that lead to discussion. We took the easy way out.Would not use Trafalgar again.

Hi; Before any of the companies mentioned are booked for a tour, their price should be checked with this 'discount companies price. This discount company books all of the above companies and you could be pleasently surprised. Richard www.pavlustravel.com/ www.afordabletours.com/ is another discounter. Give then a tellephone call.

Both Trafalgar and Globus are great companies. I have been on both and have no complaints. I found a site where you can search a lot of reputable tour operators for travel to France. http://www.escortedfrancetours.com/ Paris is amazing, as is Nice and the South of France.
