Top Czech restaurants for atmosphere
Searching on the internet I came across www.gurman.cz and found a list of top restaurants in the Czech Republic for atmosphere. #1 is Svata Klara in Prague. It's not listed in any of my guidebooks. Has anyone been there?

I haven't been there but checked reviews in the Prague Post. It is rated rather well for cuisine (not at the top level, however--it was ranked the same as a moderate level restaurant next to the hotel I stay at) but is special because of the building and setting. It's in the cellar of an old castle (Troja), apparently, and very atmospheric. Has a lot of game ("Continental. Excellent cooking in a fairy-tale settingtraditional Czech cuisine."
The drawback is that it is not in central Prague, but out in the burbs near the zoo, in Prague 7. That's to the North of Prague center (a little NW if I have my directions right), but not too far out. I don't think there is a metro stop out that way, but a taxi shouldn't be too expensive. It does sound like an interesting experience if you are looking for something special and have the time to go out there.
Your URL wouldn't work for me.
Here is a link for the zoo that gives directions by metro/bus and mentions that castle.

Thanks for the info. I found a website for it www.svataklara.cz, the link to the list on the Gurman site was www.gurman.cz/eng/index.html I'm looking for places with lots of character and atmosphere throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We like Czech food, pubs and small places ok too if anyone else has any suggestions.

Hi
I'm still planning my own trip to Prague, but I've read wonderful things about the atmosphere (and food) in the folllowing
Flambee
Restaurant Hradcany
Kampa Park
Restaurant Sarah Bernhardt
Restaurant Mucha (more casual than the above)
You should be able to find comments on these and more in the Prague Post on line as Christina mentioned, also at

There is a restaurant at the top of the "dancing building" (the one that is on the river near Karlovo Namesti), that gets great reviews, and has great views, also. Don't know the name, but it is in the Prague Post restaurant guide, and it is in all the tourist books that you get at hotels, etc.
Also, there is another pavillion style restaurant at the top of the hill in the park next to the metronome (across the river from Intercontinental Hotel. It has a view of the whole city. At night, it is spectacular. Probably the best view in Prague.
4 Seasons Hotel restaurant has an outdoor area overlooking the river & castle.
Also, the TV tower in Zizkov has a restaurant at the top with phenomenal views. Cuisine gets average ratings, but there's a bar there, too.
