I am interested to learn where are must see places to go eat or pubs to pop in that have that ambiance you think of when you think of Prague. I found a couple cute places online that are candlelit and have that medieval look to them. Please let me know any places you strongly recommend. Or great place with great live music just something different and special.

You really should go to some of their famous cafes. I have two I really like: the Cafe Slavia near the National Theatre (Vaclav Havel used to hang out there) and Cafe Imperial not too far from Powder Gate. I think they have jazz at Cafe Imperial some evenings but I've only been there in day time.

Kavarna is the Municiple House(Obneci dum) main café and is wonderful,sometimes a small jazz band plays there in the afternoons.

worth doing a tour of this amazing building,
both these places are a bit more expensive than most other places but they are higher end and still much cheaper than what I would pay for a similar type place in the UK

We will be in Prague for July 19-23rd. We want to visit Cesky Krumlov for the day but we are so torn if we should do a one night stay or if we should do it in just a day trip. If anyone can help us with their insight that would be great =)

CK is a bit of a distance from Prague and I have never been there mainly because of its distance from Prague but you could go on an organised trip.

I thought you had another post on the CK thing. As I said, I only went for a day trip and took an organized tour from Prague, there are lots of companies doing that which makes it very convenient and they aren't that expensive. It's convenient because they take you directly there, if you take the train, you can't get there and it's more complicated and takes a lot longer. I thikn you have to transfer and then take a bus from teh train station into town. There are buses there, but don't know the schedules. I saw enough of it in a day, had no desire to have stayed overnight. It's really a lot easier just to let the tour company handle all the logistics, I think.

Why do you want to stay overnight? There isn't that much to see in the town, although I really did enjoy the tour of the castle. It's really a very big tourist town, you know, it's not some authentic little Czech village. I mean, it is authentic, but it isn't normal due to the tourism. But it's up to you, just complicated things if you need to find a hotel for one night, check out of the other, etc., and not sure where you are going afterward.

I've also done a day trip to Kutna Hora (another great day) with Prague Sightseeing tours and that was also excellent. They do CK also. The Martin Tours was a smaller group and so nice for that, I guess, they also added on a stop at some interesting church outside CK. But PST had a very good guide and more comfortable buses, which might be nice for that longer trip. Martin Tours just had a small regular car-van. Of course, that could change depending on the number of people they get, I suppose. PST charges 1650 CK for the day tour to Cesky Krumlov, which is also about 60 euro.

DH and I visited Prague a couple of years ago and enjoyed dinner at Restaurant Rainer Maria Rilke. We were fortunate to get a table as we had not made a reservation. The waiter put us at ease right away and the food good. DH had chicken stuffed with salmon and I had straight salmon from Norway. We had passed a placed called Choco Cafe earlier in the afternoon but after dinner we were too full to go looking for it.

We had lunch another day at Restaurant Pod Vezi on the castle side of near the Charles Bridge. DH had a good Czech beer and roast duck and while I had a panini and salad with really good balsamic. Wish I could have bought a bottle of it.

Thanks Christina u have helped me make up mind mind just a day trip. We have heard from a lot people n forums spend night in CK but just like u said sounds like a hassle get another hotel for one night only.
