Tips on Vienna and Prague

We will be going to Vienna with our 2 teenage sons in August. We are arriving on a Saturday morning and leaving Friday PM. Will we have enough time to take a side trip to Prague. I understand the train is anywhere from 3 to 5 hrs. Will this round trip travel leave me enough time to enjoy both cities?
Also does anyone have suggestions about hotels that will accomadate a family of 4.
Thanks

Hi K,

I wouldn't recommend Prague as a daytrip from Vienna.

Praugue would not be a side trip. We would plan to spend 3 nights there.

While in Prague, we did a day trip to Budapest ... it was very doable. We found a guide in Vienna who drove us, toured us, and brought us back. We left around 8am and was back around 7pm. Although I'd like to go back and spend more time there, a day was all we had, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Something to consider instead of Prague.

I think a side trip to Prague is a great idea.

Many hotels have rooms to accommodate 4 - what is your budget?

I think you could split your time fairly evenly between Vienna and Prague and see alot in each city. I prefer Prague to Vienna, but that is just my opinion. Depending on your likes and dislikes, you could make a list of what you think you want to see in each city and then decide how to split your time.

Our budget for a quad hotel is preferable under $300 per night. Any ideas?
