In London, use an Oyster - you can't go wrong.
Others have given you sugestions, so here are mine for Paris on a 4 full-day itinerary:
1) Notre-Dame, Pantheon, Luxembourg gardens, Eiffel Tower
2) Louvre, Jardin Tuileries, Le Madeleine, walk on Champs Elysees, then take Metro to Arc de Triomphe
3) Sacre Coeur, Palais Garnier (in my opinion, the most beautiful building in Paris! - only see the exterior), and Musee d'Orsay (on Thursday nights the museum is open until 9:45 pm)
4) Versailles
With only a four day trip, some would discourage you from visiting Versailles, but no Paris trip is complete without seeing the opulent palace of Louis XIV!
When you are on Champs Elysees don’t miss the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais - two beautiful buildings that were created for the Exposition Universelle in 1900.
Cheers, hope my suggestions helped!
