As a footnote to this thread, the London Theatre Guide reports that the first two previews of the Mike Leigh play (which now has a title: "Two Thousand Years", which were supposed to take place on September 8 and 9, have been cancelled, and that extra Sunday performances have been added to accommodate the people who had tickets for the cancelled performances. Previews are now scheduled to start on September 10, with the official opening still scheduled for September 15.
Makes you wonder what sort of shape the production is in, since cancelling sold-out performances is not the kind of thing a theater does lightly (even if they are able to accommodate everyone by adding extra performances later). Hopefully, Sarah will be able to snag a ticket and let us know.

All,
I arrived home late yesterday and am afraid that I have disappointing news. Once in London I was told that my best chance to get a ticket was at the National Theatre, so I snuck over there between meetings on Friday and learned the news Bree had already discovered! They suggested I call back on Saturday to make sure it was on and to ask for a seat, but no luck.
In the end, I spent the entire day walking, shopping and visiting the V & A and had a long, wonderful, leisurely dinner at a tiny restaurant near my hotel called The Little Square (3 Shepherd Market in Mayfair). I can't recommend it enough for a woman traveling alone. They were courteous, thoughtful, attentive and very kind. They even comped me coffee and bottled water for reasons I don't know.
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I am going back to London for work in November and will try again for a show!
