Repost for John

Author: Kat

The 2 timeshares that we stayed in were the Barratt Leila Playa Club (RCI#1518) and Barratt Villacana Club (RCI#1847). Both are RCI Gold Crown facilities. I preferred the Villacana purely for aesthetic reasons - flowering vines climbing the walls, fountains in courtyard, nice pool area, good rec facilities for kids. The Leila Playa was very nice, just not quite as pretty - however it is right on the Mediterranean. Activities are fun in both places - treasure hunts for kids, kaoroke (sp?), pool games. Main desk will also arrange for tours - we did Tangier, Granada, and a safari tour through the timeshares. Gibraltar, Ronda, Mijas we did on our own. We checked out the Barrat Do a Lola Club while we were there, looks much nicer on web site than in actuality. It's kind of beat. By the way, neither of these places have airconditioning, which can make it uncomfortable and noisy. They do provide a fan upon request.

Hi:
We stayed at the Barratt Leila Playa in March and our two-story, three-bedroom unit DID have air conditioning. We liked it because the complex is much smaller than the highrise monstrosities lining the Costa Del Sol. Only two stories, in a u-shape around a lush garden with waterfalls and pools, and right on the beach. Unfortunately the beach was covered with sea urchins, and anyhow in March it was still too cool to really enjoy the beach but some people lolled around the beautiful pool. Can't testify to activities, as we spent every day driving into the mountains. You can cross the highway on a pedestrian bridge to a small shopping area with two grocery stores and a couple of restaurants. (By the way our time share was through Interval World)

Vera

Just got back from 3 weeks in Spain-spent the middle week at the RCI Gold Crown resort Playa Leila Club. Very clean and comfortable-most condos had a terrace with a view of the Med. There was a nice pool and a so-so restaurant. Dona Lola, the sister resort about a mile away, is larger. It has a spa, both indoor and outdoor pools, and a larger gym. And there were many more choices of restaurants. But it looked as if many rooms were viewless. I had my choice of the two properties and I think I made the right decision. The location is great-we made day trips to the white villages, Gibralter and Tangiers. If you are happy with clean, comfortable-but not luxurious-accommodations you would like the Playa Leila Club. I was looking through the RCI directory on line and saw several resorts in Portugal that looked interesting also. My friend wants to go with her family and do two RCI resorts-one on the Costa del Sol and one on the Algarve.
