time needed to complete a passport renewal
Right now routine passport renewal applications seem to be moving along normally. I gave my renewal forms to FedEx Saturday afternoon, January 5. My new passport arrived Monday Jan 28.
Figuring that the clock started on Monday the 7th, full completion time was 3 weeks. I did not pay any expedition fee, just the normal handling charges.
As peak travel season approaches, the time for routine handling may well lengthen, but if you need a renewal or a new passport, now seems to be the time to act.

Same here with new passports. Daughter and I visited our local courthouse around the 4th of Jan with applications, and we received an email on Jan 24 that the passports are in the mail with date of arrival given. I was amazed at the turnaround time, after hearing of the long delays just last summer.

I sent my in husband's passport January 9th. I sent it overnight with a pre-paid overnight envelope included. Did not expedite and it came back on the 23rd-2 weeks exactly.
I did the same thing for myself in November and it came back in 9 days!
