Passport turn-around time - currently
Anyone here recently get a NEW passport? I was wondering how long the process takes right now.
A co-worker is going to Germany over the Christmas holidays, his very first trip to Europe, and leaves on the 20th of December.
THanks in advance for you answers.

It took six weeks to receive my new one but I mailed in my almost expired passport with the application. The applications all seem to go to Pittsburgh now, so it takes longer than when there were several areas in the USA for passport application. Here in Texas there was a passport office in Houston. No more.

As a Postal Employee, I can tell you the quoted time for a new passport is, 4-6 weeks. It may come in quicker. We use the Seattle passport agency here in Colorado. You can pay an extra fee for expedited service, and then it takes about 2 weeks. Make sure the photos are the correct size, also, so it doesn't come back. Most Post Offices can do passport photos, so you can be sure they are correct.

Desperate..visit the nearest passport office. Arrive before it is open; there may be a line. Check the website for photo details as well as payment methods. You may have to show travel tickets to establish the need for an immediate issue of a passport. I did this in Washington, DC. You will have to return later in the day to collect the new passport.
