I was wondering if anyone knows how long it is is currently taking to get a US passport.

I think the passport (State dept) will tell you to expect a wait from 6-8 weeks for a renewal at least, but the actual wait may depend on which center process the request.

Last December I renewed mine (through Pittsburgh) and it took less than three weeks.

If you figure 7 weeks, you won't be disappointed.

For an extra fee, the passport office can get it to you within a week.

I wouldn't count on it happening all the time, but I renewed mine about 3 months ago and got it back in under 2 weeks. I was very surprised when it showed up in the mail--at first I thought it must have been returned because I did something wrong.

Don't know what impact the closing of the New Orleans office might be having.
