Passport turn-around time - currently

Anyone here recently get a NEW passport? I was wondering how long the process takes right now.

A co-worker is going to Germany over the Christmas holidays, his very first trip to Europe, and leaves on the 20th of December.

THanks in advance for you answers.

In which country do you live?

Are we supposed to assume that you are asking about a US passport?

It took six weeks to receive my new one but I mailed in my almost expired passport with the application. The applications all seem to go to Pittsburgh now, so it takes longer than when there were several areas in the USA for passport application. Here in Texas there was a passport office in Houston. No more.

I applied at my local post office which has a passport renewal office within-I received my passport in under two weeks.

Thanks for all your replies.

Catbert, that's a pretty healthy fee they impose! Good for you!

It is expensive. $60 for expediting and $30 for express mail. I just felt so earthbound without a passport!

Just got my renewed passport in the mail today. Applied online, then sent in the photo and old passport on Sept. 11. I live in Fl. and the postmark on the envelope today was from New Hampshire.

As a Postal Employee, I can tell you the quoted time for a new passport is, 4-6 weeks. It may come in quicker. We use the Seattle passport agency here in Colorado. You can pay an extra fee for expedited service, and then it takes about 2 weeks. Make sure the photos are the correct size, also, so it doesn't come back. Most Post Offices can do passport photos, so you can be sure they are correct.

Desperate..visit the nearest passport office. Arrive before it is open; there may be a line. Check the website for photo details as well as payment methods. You may have to show travel tickets to establish the need for an immediate issue of a passport. I did this in Washington, DC. You will have to return later in the day to collect the new passport.

Overseas. Visit the US Embassy; caveat, know open days and hours. Turn around is one week as papers have to be processed in the USA. The USA Embassy service in Warszawa is quick and pleasant!
