Time in Sorrento????
Hello all,
We have booked our airfare and hotels in Venice and Florence. We are now looking for advice on whether or not we should stay in Sorrento. We want to end our trip in Rome (Uncle lives there) but are wondering if we will have enough time to enjoy Sorrento and get to Pompei if we go from Florence to Sorrento and stay 2 nights in Sorrento. The remaining 5 nights will then be in Rome, on our own and then with family. So to re-cap
2 nights Venice train to Florence
2 nights Florence train to Sorrento
2 nights Sorrento train to Rome
5 nights Rome.
We look forward to your comments and helpful advice. Happy Holidays
Thanks,
JBOZ

I suggest that you skip Sorrento and spend those two nights in a Tuscan hilltown midway between Florence and Rome - take in the scenic countryside. Otherwise you're spending too much time on the train IMO - going down to Sorrento and then back up to Rome.

I second the sentiments of Tuck... not that much to see and do in Sorrento unless you like souvenir shopping. I'd spend an additional night in Florence, train to Naples. Spend one night in Naples to see Pompeii. Then spend your final 5 nights in Rome.

I too would omit Sorrento. But I'd spend more time in Venice and Florence. Especially if you have a long flight into Venice. Maybe do a daytrip from Florence into the Tuscan countryside, to Siena maybe or Lucca or Pisa.
But I do like Sorrento. It's a pretty town and a good transportation hub for trips to the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompeii/Herculaneum. But in just one whole day and maybe another half, you won't have time for much. I'd save it for another trip.

If you really want to do Pompeii you could do it as a day trip from Rome. But I wouldn;t necessarily give up on Sorrento - depending on when you plan on going. If in good weather I would do it over Tuscan hill towns (heresy I know) but I adore Pompei and Capri - and if you driverversus train the trip can be quite a bit faster.
