gertie, I don't know that I'd call them Censorship Police. They do pull posts or entire threads when they become offensive or hateful towards a particular person, which happens very predictably once a thread turns political. The editors also sometimes delete threads that have nothing to do with travel, although they allow a certain amount of leniency. But let's not get off on that tangent on this thread...

I can't believe the original thread got deleted. I was very impressed that Fodor's forum had news of the tragedy before most U.S. news agencies had it. I was also impressed to see the British presence here and the outpouring of concern. Sorry to hear that some people here don't know when to keep their political mouth shut. There's a time and a place for everything. This was not the time or the place.

I posted on the first thread this morning with tears streaming down my face. The horror in London this morning reminded me of the terrible day of 9/11. I left for work with a very heavy heart but encouraged by the thoughts, sympathy and support being offered here. Many of my wonderful American co-workers came by to say how shocked and sad they were at the London bombings.
As previously stated my prayers and thoughts are with all those in London and who suffer because of these terrible deeds.
Thank you Marilyn for letting us all know what happened to the previous thread. I also wonder if it is possible to bring it back with the offending posts removed for reading.

despicable behaviour yanking the original thread by the fodors gang. at the least they should have shut it down by not letting any one reply. terrible that all those warm and heartfelt messages are gone becuase of some silly editor.

Hello, Marilyn. I don't believe the London thread was pulled because of a few polemic statements or the complaints of some agony aunts. I have been posting here for a long time and have noticed that threads that deal with terrorism are often deleted. Why? Fodor's is a travel business and terrorism is very bad for business.
I rang London this afternoon to see how Aunt Pat and Uncle Terry were getting on. It seems Aunt Pat was in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, with a kidney infection. She was asked to give up her bed for one of the wounded in the bombing. Of course, with a resolve that would put the Queen to shame, she gave up her bed. She is now resting quietly at home. Poor Uncle Terry and to drive through all the barackades to retrieve her. He is probably sucking on a fag right now, his nerves are so shot.
I'm having a large gin to help me get through the evening. I hope you are doing the same.

Let me be clear that I do not have any insider knowledge. I couldn't find the original thread, and kept searching because I couldn't believe it would be pulled in its entirety. I am just assuming it was the political posts that got it pulled, as that has happened before.
It was very moving, as people who were in the midst of London wrote in with their immediate experience, and loving words of support were offered from all around the world.
I know this forum is based in the US and most of the posters are from here. But it is truly an international forum, and these are the times when it is comforting to know that people around the world are thinking of you.

A New Yorker here, offering my best wishes and condolences to all in London and the UK.
I have friends and collegues in London and hope they and their loved ones are all safe and well, as I do for all thos affected by the events od this sad day.

Thin, they did not pull the 9/11, tsunami or hurricane threads which expressed similar support for those affected. Or at least not the same day as the events occurred.
No gin yet, but you are 3 hours ahead of me. (I know you pour it in your coffee cup every morning, but I simply don't have the constitution for that.)
Glad your aunt and uncle are safe, and what a trouper she is! I am still waiting to hear from 2 good friends in London that they are ok.

I did not see the original thread as I am away from home. Although I do not have time to read all the posts above right now, may I suggest that all posters and fodorites write to the editors and ask them to reinstate the thread. Maybe this will help....

What you really mean is, "Any political comment is fine as long as it agrees with my version of the truth." And so you paint your detractors with epithets.
