The Romantic Fairy Tale Road....
Hi guyz,
l'm planning my Germany trip to both the Romantic Road n Fairy Tale Road in 2004.
1)What are the pros and cons to go in April or October?
2)Is it possible to see
beautiful golden autumn foliage scenery
on these 2 routes and specifically which towns ?
3)Any websites on Germany autumn foliage?
4)Which week of October would be the best time for the
colourful foliage?Otherwise l may decide to go in April instead so as to avoid the tourist crowd.
Thanx

You will probably have better weather in late September/October. Where is the Fairy tale road? We have lived in Germany and go there often. Never heard of it. Do you mean the Romantic Road? You have me curious now as to something I may have missed.

I think that October may be a bit early for truly brilliant foliage. I can't recall exactly how early the trees started turning but this year in the Frankfurt area I have some spectacular pictures of foliage dated on November 10th. I believe much of it depends on the years weather but I'm not sure. They are both wonderful times to travel here though, neither is particularly tourist packed so I don't think you will be disappointed either way. Good luck to you.

Bob - we must have posted at the same time....I just read your post. The Fairy Tale Road runs from Hanau and goes towars Hamburg... it traces the route of the Grimm Brothers and their stories. I believe it's listed on the German tourism website.

I've traveled in Germany in October and November over a couple of years. In mid-November it starts to get a little too cold. I really enjoyed my last trip in the first couple of weeks in October. The foliage around Rothenburg was just starting to turn, but in the Fussen area it was just beautiful. My vote would be to travel in mid-October, to both miss the crowds and take in some scenery.

- another truely excellent site:
project.htm". It is apparently a project for German studies in an Australian public school. It is well written and professionally done with multiple links to all the villages along the way and their ties to the Brothers Grimm. Check out the site - it is really exceptional!

mkd- So very sorry - I left out "edu." after "vic." - but even I couldn't get in typing the full address, but "www.bayswaterps.vic.edu.au" will get you to the home page, then click curriculum, then click "lote" then scroll down until you come to "Fairytale Road". I usually enter the site by doing a "Google Search" - it is the first entry on my google screen. Good Luck!
