The Cheapest way from Milan to Zurich, and from Zurich to Stockholm

1. What is the cheapest option to travel from Milan to Zurich?
2. There after, what is the cheapest way to travel from Zurich to Stockholm?

1. Train, booking well in advance (90 d) on www.sbb.ch

2. Whatever the cheapest flight of the day will be. Again, booking well in advance. See www.kayak.com or similar for the overview, and compare nearby airports (esp. Basel).

Try this site http://www.flylc.com/directall-en.asp to get to Sweden considering Basel as a point of departure as well.

>>>1. What is the cheapest option to travel from Milan to Zurich?<<<

The cheapest train option is to book a Smart Fare (19€)on Trenitalia (the Italian train company) for one of the EC trains. They have to be booked in advance and the discounted 19€ fare can sell out. Regular price is 71€.

When are you traveling?

altamiro, I checked on www.sbb.ch but the ticket shop required me to choose the option between either collection at Switzerland counter or Post by DHL. I prefer to have e-ticket to save all the hassle

I doubt November schedules (summer schedules run first weekend in June until Dec) are loaded yet although they should be soon. You can book on Trenitalia 120 days in advance. You will get a code e-mailed for the ticket, but will need to pick it up with the code at a self-service kiosk in one of the larger train stations in Italy (Rome, Milan, Florence, etc. - they will show a list).

To get the Smart Fare, enter Milano Centrale (it will start to autofill - click it as it does) and Zurich (you may have to type Zuerich for the autofill). Be sure to enter the date and time of day (it defaults to current time of day so be sure to change it). From the list of trains, you need to select an EC train with 0 changes. On the next screen, click select next to the price and 2nd and 1st class fares will show. Underneath the fare, click on "view other prices and services". On the next screen where it says "offer" click the drop down arrow next to adult/standard and select Smart (or Smart 2 if Smart isn't available). Smart fares are only for 2nd class which is fine on these trains.
