Thank you Delta
Just wanted to take a minute to thank Delta Airlines & staff. So many people want to slam companies but few thank them. I was scheduled to fly Tonight from JFK to Madrid on Delta. Just last week I was stricken with a herniated cervical disc C-7-T 1 and required emergency cervical fusion sugery. I purchased my tickets for two adults and two childern in July 2003 . I called Delta when I got out of the hospital. The Delta staff made things very simple and easy. All I had to do was fax them a letter from My surgeon and the E ticket numbers. In just four Days I recived a full cash/ credit refund to my credit card with no Questions asked . I just wanted to thank a company for a change . And also let travlers know they have some options . Also thanks to Hotels.com provided a speedy credit to my account for the cancelation of hotels in Spain.

italiano was very fortunate to get a refund if indeed the tickets were nonrefundable. Were I a shareholder I might be displeased at the generousity in view of the following press release. However, his experience does show the desirability of trip insurance when buying tickets so far in advance.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines said on Friday, March 12, it expects the loss for its March quarter to be higher than previously expected, citing pressure on passenger revenue, higher fuel prices and fuel hedge costs.
The company said that it expects its loss to be about $400 million, up from its previous expectation of $300 million to $350 million.
"We do not expect significant improvement in the revenue environment in 2004 and expect significant cost pressures related to aircraft fuel, pension and interest expenses to continue," the company said in a 10-K securities filing.
"While new financing may be available to us, access to such financing cannot be assured given the existing business environment and the composition of our currently available unencumbered assets," the company said in its 10-K filing. "Failure to obtain new financing could have a material adverse effect on our liquidity."

We flew Delta to Costa Rica in January, and they did a very nice job.
I'd be happy as a stockholder to see Delta respond as they did to Italiano's true emergency situation. It makes it more likely that he would fly with Delta next time, and that he would tell people how great Delta is. Sort of like he just did.
