There are many commercial tours from Prague and a number of these will pick you up at your hotel. We took one that used a large van and it worked well except that if we hadn't asked, they would have skipped the crematorium. You could also go with public transportation but it would be difficult to get to all of the sites once you reach Terezin. A rental can can be a good choice since the tour that we took only provided the transportation and the guides were those connected with the different sites. They would also be available if you arrived without a tour.

Hi
We visited Terezin with a tour we booked in the Jewish Quarter. A survivor of Terezin was our guide and that made a huge difference. I don't remember the tour company name it was several years ago.

We visited Terezin from Prague using Precious Legacy Tours - http://www.legacytours.net. The company is located in the Jewish Quarter of Prague. It was a very good tour and our guide was excellent. She wasn't a survivor of Terezin, but her husband was, so she had a very personal connection and a lot of stories to tell.

There is no need to join a tour. Rather, any day you can leave Florenc bus stop at 0900 and reach Terezin at 0957 for a fare of 61 crowns or 2.15 euros. The camp opens at 0900, so you can also travel thus: Prague main station (beware pickpockets) 0714, Vsetaty 0756 to 0759, Litomerice mesto station 0840, Litomerice bus station 0840, Litomerice bus station 0900, Terezin 0907. After the camp you can take a bus in ten minutes to the fine town of Litomerice, lunch, look around, and then a bus back to Prague in an hour, or a train in 90 minutes, with a change.

Hi
Sorry Ben Haines but I disagree with you. Using a guidebook and public transportation leaves a vacuum in the history of Terezin. You could look at the buildings and walk but you miss out on the soul of the town and what happened there becomes just words on a page.

A tour group in Prague called Wittman Tours was recommended to me for touring Terezin. Has anyone used them and is this the best choice?

The former Inner Circle member, Elaine, who now only posts on Travelers to Go has always recommend Slyvia Whittman. I would trust her judgement.

I would second Whittman Tours.

We took the Jewish Quarter tour with them (on Thingorjus' and Elaine's recommendation (many thanks!)) and were very pleased with their professionalism, content, organization, etc.
