telephoning opera de paris

HELP. I am trying to call the Paris Opera to order tickets. The phone number listed on their website is 0 892 89 90 90. I have been dialing 011 33 892 89 90 90. I get the message "This international call can not be completed as dialed." This number has a surcharge, is there something special I need to do because of that? Thanks.

Hi Dorthea,
Do you have a long distance carrier or do you dial a 1010 number for long distance?

If the latter, you must dial that number first.

If the former, call your long distance carrier.

I recently ordered tickets / made seat choices via their web site, the whole transaction went perfect; and 7 days later I received the mailed tickets in hand, in Florida USA. Had no need to telephone.

I've also ordered tickets on their web site. Since it was close to the show date I picked them up at will-call with no problems. The Garnier Opera House (where around half their shows are performed) is beautiful.
thanks everyone for your help. I wish I could buy my tickets on the web but the web tickets sold out in January. Hopefully we will be able to get some last minute tickets when we get there.

As far as I know, you cannot dial those kind of phone numbers from the US, the ones that begin with "08" in France. It's like 800 numbers in the US, you can't call them from abroad either. I don't think they want to deal with phone sales except for those that are paying for that service through the 08 prefix.

I think you have a couple choices. One is to get your concierge to get them, if you have one (best choice probably). Or someone local, of course, if you knew anyone in France. Second choice is go through a broker, but you'll pay a markup (www.omniticket.fr or www.ticketnet.fr, for example, or Globaltickets in NYC). If the tickets are truly sold out, neither of those will work and you will have to wait to see what you can get at the last minute in Paris at the box office.

Hi Dorthea,

Christina is right. The number you are dialling is an "800" number that only works in France. Here is the numberyou can call from the US: 011 33 1 40 01 17 89 & here is their website: http://www.opera-de-paris.fr/.

Enjoy, Gail

Ewis & Allan64,

I'd like to go to the Garnier Opera House while in Paris in June. I'm happy to hear how effortless it is to buy tickets on-line. Can you share that website?

Thanks.

It would be great if people could include the URL for any website they mention on a thread. However, a search on Google.com or a similar search engine will usually turn it up. "opera paris" gets it as number one on the list:

http://www.opera-de-paris.fr/

(Click on the logo at the top to proceed to the main page, which has the link to "Billeterie on-ligne/Tickets on-line" on the upper right side.)
