taxi from airport to city (Rome)

We are planning to purchase a land only tour of Italy. We'd like to use FF mileage to fly into Rome and take the taxi to the hotel. What does a cab ride cost from FCO airport into Rome? One tour catalogue warns of cab price at 290 euros (no kidding)! Can anyone confirm?

A taxi to Central Rome should cost between 45 and 50 Euros. You can also take the fast train for 9.50 Euros, which departs every 30 minutes and takes 32 minutes (nonstop) to reach Termini Train Station.

You can book a shuttle service online before you leave for Rome. They will wait for you outside the baggage claim a holding a sign with your name. There are a lot of good reviews on Fodor's for Limo Service Rome. Prices start at 42 euro for 3 passengers.

I have taken the limoservice also, 3 people, nice car with AC, for 42 dollars..

The person that wrote that tour catalog must have had too many Boubons or beers...

Last Sept. we had the hotel we stayed at arrange for a limo to meet us at the airport and it cost us 50 Euro. The driver met us at the exit area for international arrivals. Everything worked quite well.

I have just returned from Rome a few days ago. I found this limousine service on the net:
http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/FiumicinoE.htm
They were very efficient and I was very pleased with their service ans responses.
I paid 35 Euros and highly recommend them.

ERI, thanks for the info! My hotel was picking us up for 65 Euros. I think I will cancel that and use your suggestion.

You won't regret it!
My hotel asked 60 Euros!
The driver waited for us with a sign bearing our name just as we left the customs and was very nice and efficient.

If you are talking about the one week tour of Italy, the 290 euros is an estimate of what it costs from the Rome airport to the first hotel which is in Todi (Umbria).

Pre-ordering a ride is definately the best choice, especially if you have too many bags to handle public transport. Don't forget to get some Euros at the airport to pay the guy. And if you come in on a red-eye like I did, try to stay awake for the entertainment - my driver positively gloried in driving disapearing medians, wrong way on 1-way streets, tram lanes, etc.
