Sweetie darling, opin on Paris hotel?
My London cousin, Kirsty, and I plan to meet in Paris this November. We were thinking of staying at the Hotel Andrea Rivoli for a few days.
Has anyone ever stayed at this hotel? If you have, what is your opinion, sweetie darling?

Have not stayed there but TripAdvisor gives good reviews, albeit all say the rooms are tiny if that matters.
If Mimi doesn't come thru w/resto suggestions, Zagat's sent me their
2008/09 guide if I can help in any way.
Good time of year to go BTW.

Yipeeeeeeee! I will get some help with restaurants!
I have two good friends in Paris--Christina (French Vogue editor) and the Countess de Billy. Christina always sends me to fashion-victim cafes (places like Costes) and the countess always sends me to really expensive, classic restaurants where you have a stroke when your bill arrives.
Yes, sweetie darling, I did read those reviews on Trip Advisor.
I am hoping a real Fodorite will give me his/her opinion, however.
Cheers,
Thin

Hi there, you might raise some people who've stayed at the hotel if you'd include the hotel name in the title... Here are some I unearthed...

You could also check out Hotel Andrea Rivoli. I think it was 88 euro when we were there last July. Rooms are small but the hotel is ideally located for exploring Paris. We walked around to all the major sites from there but there are also several metro lines within a few blocks. Many bakeries, restaurants, etc in the area.

One we like that is very well located is Hotel Andrea Rivoli. We were there after Christmas a couple of years ago and it was @ 82 euros for a double. It is not fancy and the rooms were small but it was clean and had been remodeled within the past few years (@ a 2*) but within 2 blocks of the Pompideux, 4 blocks from Notre Dame and about 6 blocks from the Louvre.

Unique Qualities: We were very pleased with the quality of the hotel. Our room was a good size (for Paris) with a very clean bathroom and all mod cons. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we stayed in May 2004 it was 80 euro for a double room, which we thought was very good value considering its excellent proximity to many sites. It wasn't luxury, but a clean and centrally located hotel in Paris that doesn't break the bank is always a good find in my book! (Jan 1, 2006 )

Hotel Andrea Rivoli is a well-run 2 star just off rue Rivoli and between Chatelet and Hotel de Ville. At Andrea Rivoli the elevator was out of service for most of my stay ... and my room was on the 4th floor, that is 5th. Part of the problem was the holiday and then the weekend. I had a single -- carved out of the space between the elevator and the spiral staircase. The room is basic, but cheerful, with an interesting shape because of the staircase. I was on a courtyard. The bathroom is absolutely spotless, nice new tile and SMALL. Did I say small? You walk in and you are at the sink. You turn right and you might as well sit on the toilet -- to the left is the shower, big enough, actually, but there is no leeway to speak of otherwise. From the floor plan on the door it looks as though the rooms ending in 05 have no window I could be wrong, but that was what it seemed like. I have no idea which type of rooms those are.
Unique Qualities: Location between two metro stops and positioned for touring the Marais. A very pleasant and efficient front desk. (Jun 13, 2007)

I have a ticket to the Louvre which I will send you if you'd like. I was trying to sell it, but it's too much of a bother. You can write me at this screen name at aol dot com with address info and I'll mail it. You ARE going to the Louvre, aren't you?

Linda, thanks so much for your offer. That is so sweet of you.
However, I have been to the Louvre MANY times. I don't know if I will go this time. If I do, I would probably go on Friday night when it is free and less crowded.
I want to see Musee Marmatton (sp?) and probably the Orsay.
I want to go to Versailles-I have never been there even though my grandmother kept an apartment on Avenue Kleber for over 40 years!
I am meeting my cousin, Kirsty, who is from London but now lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I am sure there are things she wants to do as well.
I also have to contend with meeting with my good friend, Christina and her mother, the Countess de Billy. They will have things planned for me. It is hard to say "no" to them.
I really just want a nice, relaxing holiday. I see myself sitting in a dark garden looking at swans.
Hugs,
Thin

Thanks, Travelnut.
I emailed Andrea Rivoli, but they have not emailed me back.
A co-worker suggested Hotel du College in the Latin Quarter. I REALLY LIKE that area as it is just a short walk to many sites.
As you may know, I am also very interested in "street fashion" and think I would really love people watching in this area.
Thank you,
Thin

In the 5th is a great restaurant named Le Cosi at 9 rue Cujas , phone 43 29 20 20. It is a simple place that serves excellent dishes in the Corsican tradition. The young chef and his wife run the place with a sort of foodie vibe but without the pretense usually seen with that - he food is good enough that they don't need the affectation. Prices are quite moderate, and I have never had anything from their menu that was not great.
