Supermarket in Chiado Lisbon needed for apartment cooking
Can anyone suggest a supermarket or large food shop in the Chiado as we have an apartment and would like to do some cooking? I've tried searching for the last hour and have had no luck.

I am not able to help with a supermarket, but when we were in Lisbon we had a great time exploring the food market, Mercado de Rubeiro (sp?), I believe it was called. Vast array of fresh fruits, veggies, cheeses, fish and meat and it opened really early in the morning.

I have just found the Pingo Doce near Rossio which I think might work best. Thanks for the suggestion on the Mercado but we're arriving late and I wanted to be able to get some things in. I'll be sure to try it over the time we are there, thanks!

We shopped at the Pingo a block off the Rossio when we rented an apartment in the Baixa. It is a modern supermarket with everything you'll need, including the excellent Portugese wines. You will see other Pingo markets around the city as well as many small neighborhood markets.
