Strasbourg hotel help

I'm trying to find a 3 star hotel (with AC) near the train station - arriving from Munich July 2 , leaving for Paris July 4. Not looking to rent a car; is a place near the hotel worthwhile as a base for a day and a half? Or should I look for a place in the center of town?

Strasbourg is fairly compact, so even if you stay at a hotel that is close to the train station you wouldn't be far enough away from the centre of town that you wouldn't be able to walk.
Last summer I stayed at the Comfort Hotel Centre which was less than a ten minute walk from the train station and got a great internet rate f 61euro.

www.comfortinn.com
If I were you, I'd look for a place closer to the center of town because it will be much nicer for sightseeing, dining, etc, during the time you are in Strasbourg. I think the train station is far enough away from the center that I would choose elsewhere. I can recommend the Hotel de L'Europe which is a very nice 3* in the Petite France area of the city.
http://www.hotel-europe.com It is not too far from the train station, so the taxi ride is cheap (it's in a pedestrian-only area, but cabs can go there--I took one and it was probably about 5 euro). It was nice to be near that old quarter, and it wasn't a far walk from the main cathedral square area which is the center of the sightseeing.

Another hotel I was considering was the Hotel Hannong
http://www.hotel-hannong.com/
I didn't stay there so can't speak from personal experience on the inside, but it did look nice from the outside and was a very convenient location also, in-between the station and the center.
I forgot to notice you wanted AC, so you'll have to check on that requirement in my suggestions as I don't know about that. Otherwise, Strasbourg has a very good city web site with lots of hotels on it.

I don't mind being near the train station in some cities. It can be O.K., but the train station area in Strasbourg is very unattractive IMO. I choose another location in that city.

Hotel de Rohan is a small 3 star with A/C, and it has a great location on a pedestrian street across from the cathedral. Lots of charm.
