Stranded... need affordable place in Paris

There is a missionary couple that I know of that is stranded in Paris for 10 days as the air traffic controllers in Cameroon, Africa are on strike. They are scheduled to fly out to Africa on the 9th.
As they are missionaries, money is a factor. The airline put them up for 1 night and they're on their own for the remainder of the time. Anyone know of somewhere affordable that is not too dumpy? The only affordable places I've stayed in Paris were hostels and I certainly wouldn't recommend any of them to this couple.
Thanks for the help.

Here is a convent that would probably be inexpensive.

I wish I could help. The same thing happened to me about 10 years ago when the West African controllers were on strike. But since I had tickets from US to Bamako via Paris, the airline put us up at an airport hotel for 3 nights...

Would this be a possibility?

I would scout the hotels around Gare de l'Est/Gare du Nord.

Or else maybe stay in one of the ones I mentioned in my "ethnic itinerary" thread 8 months ago. Rooms for under 40€ a night.

Of course there is always the Formule 1 at Paris Nord II next to CDG with a free shuttle to the airport. Last time I checked it, it was 29€ a night. But it would be a dismal place to spend several days, much less a week or more.

If they really have 10 days, then they should consider going out of Paris for 1 week of it. They will be able to find some nice and inexpensive places--a secondary city (not in a resort or very touristy area, that is, not along the coast or in Provence)...Angers, for example, or Bourges or Nancy or Metz, all places not far (roughly 2 hours or less by train) from Paris, less expensive (so they won't feel they have to penny pinch all day every day), and worth seeing in their own right.
Would they be willing to consider another city for a week?

A town outside Paris sounds like a great idea. We stayed at a farmhouse in Normandy for a low price.

Is there no hope their religious community can call upon the global network of missionary supporters to aid them?
