Steig or Steig Hotels in Frankfurt
I'm a bit confused about what appears to be two different hotels near the airport at Frankfurt. Are the Steigenberger Airport Hotel and the Steingenberger Esprix one and the same? If not, how do they differ? And, while I'm at it, can someone recommend a good, reasonably priced hotel that's convenient to the airport?

Happy travels,

Ann

Steigenberger is the brand consisting of a few different classes of hotel, traditional Steigenberger, MAXX hotels, Esprix etc, (much like Holiday Inn, with Courtyards, Express, etc). The "Esprix" brand of Steigenberger hotels is a more basic hotel brand, for example the equivalent of Holiday Inn Express. Usually though all Steigenberger hotels are of a much higher quality than the equivalent Holiday Inn brands, and more on a par with Hilton, Marriott ect.
So the Steigenberger Airport Hotel will prob be 4* and higher quality than the ??2-3* Steigenberger Esprix hotel. Hope this makes sense!

Ann,

Angela's right on. Haven't stayed there, but the Steigenberger Exprixx is probably a good deal - but check the other Steigenberger as well, they sometimes have specials.
www.steigenberger.com

Other moderate options are the Novotel/Mercure/Ibis hotels
www.accorhotels.com

Hope this helps,
Andre

Ann,

We have stayed at the Steigenberger Esprix hotel (Frankfurt Airport) on two occasions.

The hotel is a 3 star facility with very modern and well-appointed rooms. Bathrooms are lovely. It is a crowded and very popular place with free shuttle service to the airport every 1/2 hour starting at 5:30am.

I have no problem in recommending it if you have an early flight and don't have a car rental, or have a rental that you want to dump the night before your flight.

If your flight is not until 10:00am or later, you can easily stay in Frankfurt and take the quick (15 minute) commuter train to the airport. Why stay at an airport hotel if time permits you to have a good time in the city on your last evening.

The other writer's description of the differences between the two hotels is quite accurate. It is the comparison between a Hilton and a Farifield Inn (with upgraded rooms).

The Esprix has a good restaurant and a great lobby bar that serves good pitza and sandwiches and also has a large clientele of American Servicemen ---lots of English being spoken.

If you decide to use the Espriz, leave extra time in the morning for check-out--- lots of early departures.

Thanks Joe and Georgine, et. al.

I just noticed that the Sheraton Hotel at FRA is now 160 euro per night (It was $280 when I looked last week.) Does that sound like a good deal to you, in comparison to the two Steigenberger hotels?

Many thanks again,

Ann
