Staying near Munich airport
Any suggestions for places to stay, other than Munich or the airport hotel, for flight from Munich airport requiring arrival around 9 AM. Would need transportation by shuttle, taxi or train.
If Munich is where we need to stay any suggestions for hotels and best way to get to airport other than S-bahn.
Many thanks!!!!!

We like Freising which is about 15 minutes from the airport by taxi (~25 euros) or dedicated shuttlebus (~3 euros)from the train station.

We liked the Hotel zur Gred (about 10 minutes from the train station) but he is a stinker about answering emails or his reservation form.

The town website lists other accomodations:

We enjoyed our last night in Germany in Landshut, less than an hour north of the airport. Richard www.airport-shuttle-munich.com/landshutus.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/landshut

A couple of weeks ago I stayed at the new Holiday Inn Express at the Munich airport, close to Erding, about 15 minutes from Terminal 1. I took the S-Bahn to the airport and picked up the hotel shuttle. They charge EUR 8 for the shuttle, by the day, by the room for up to 2 adults and 2 kids. .
It is a very clean property, with an excellent free breakfast buffet, nothing like the HIE breakfasts here in the US. They also have a bar with excellent Erdinger beer and sandwhiches and salads. I sat outside in the sunshine to have my beer. My room overlooked potato fields (I think). My weekend room rate was something like EUR59, for a single.

Hi,
We liked spending our last night in Germany before an early am. flight home in the charming old town of Erding. We stayed at the Park Hotel (Best Western). It cost 25 Euro from the hotel to the airport (less that 20 minutes away).

Dukey, I meant to answer your question about the S-bahn.
I really don't know because we do our whole trip on trains and
love them. I think we are just anxious about having everything go right on the journey to the airport and it seems
easier for us to go in a shuttle or taxi. Also, it is much easier not having to wrestle with the luggage even though we
have very little. However, I have had some shuttle and taxi
rides that made me wonder if I would live to get to the airport!!!!

I always use my points at the Marriott in Friesing for these flights back to the USA. This is a nice quiet hotel in a more residential part of town but minutes from the downtown area.
As a bonus, you can walk or taxi to the Weihenstephan brewery which is the oldest in the world. There are english speaking tours and there is a nice restaurant as well.
Hotel has a shuttle to the airport which costs about 11 E pp
