Staying in Dorio at Lake Como

Has any one heard of Dorio in the Lake Como area? I found a place to rent there, but I don't know what the area is like in this town. Thank you1

Always start with location then look for a place to stay. Dorio is far north on the lake and somewhat isolated from the primary attractions.

Its location on the lake and its somewhat isolation may be its primary attraction. As always, depends on what you're looking for.

I'm still looking for a place to stay in Lake Como. Managgio is my first choice, but unable to lock in a place.

I would be interested in what you are looking at in Dorio, as it is only about 10-15 miles North of Varenna if one is traveling by auto. Also looks like it is on the train route.

Topping for the OP. Certainly people have stayed in places other than Bellagio, Menaggio, or Varenna.

Two current threads should help:
"Como to Cinqueterre by Train"
&
"Italy's Lake Region"

I'll top them for you, I'm having trouble getting the urls to copy.

I never stayed in Dorio, but was offered a great deal by a local acquaintance I made in Varenna, on a new condo that sleeps 6. I didn't take it, because I didn;t want to have to leave the primary area of my interest, which is Varenna/Bellagio/Menaggio every evening and drive 20 min or so up winding roads in the dark.

But I would second the above posts that it depends on your objectives. if you prefer a quiet rest with a view of the Lake which is spectacular all along the shore, you may be perfectly content in Dorio. -e
