Stavanger-Departing Pulpit Rock---Do buses fill? Are there cabs?

I will be visiting Stavanger later in June, during a port stop on a cruise.

By my calculation, I have enough time to take the ferry/bus combination to reach Pulpit Rock, and make the hike. But I MUST count on a specific bus/ferry combination back to Stavanger to leave plenty of time to reach the ship prior to departure.

Might the bus be full and have some people required to wait for a later bus, resulting in missing the scheduled ferry? Or, can one count comfortably on enough buses to insure returning on schedule? If necessary, are usually cabs available??

Thanks!

This may or may not be helpful. We drove to Pulpit Rock in 2013 but our four friends took the bus/ferry combination. It was an extremely crowded day as it had rained the previous two days. When we finished around 2pm our four friends had no trouble getting on their bus (I say "their" but they were not looking for a bus at a specific time, just one specific bus company). I know that people are warned by at least one of the two bus companies that their bus may be full and they may have to wait. It was not a problem on our day.

Some people recommend buying a one way bus ticket to the area and then taking your choice of bus, minibus or taxi back as best suits your needs. Just about everyone at the parking lot is going back to Stavanger so you will have options. I believe you can order a taxi from the lodge near the parking lot.

Depending on how much time you have set aside for the hike you may well be back in time to take an earlier bus. I believe they say the hike should take around 4 hours plus time at the top. If you are leaving early, are in relatively good shape and the weather is ok, it shouldn't take you that long.

4 hour hike to get to the top?

And then another 4 hours to descend, then take the bus or car back to the city?

How long a bus trip?

Fours hours total (up and down) hiking time plus time at the top.

OK, not so bad.

Are there other attractions around Stavanger or that part of Norway?
