St Paul's outside the Wall
We plan on visiting St Paul's Outside the Wall to see the sarcophagus of St Paul which was recently uncovered and part of which can be viewed through the floor.
I have not been able to find a map covering this area or information about attractions around or near St Paul's. Are there any second or third tier historical or artistic sites in this area or should I just plan on heading back inside the walls? Thanks

If you are venturing outside the walls (a great thing!) I suggest you pick up a copy of Michelin's little spiral atlas called "Roma Atlante Tascabile." It covers all of Rome and the immediate environs. You probably know to take Metro Line B to the St. Paul's stop. After viewing the basilica, you can get back on the Metro and go two stops and walk around EUR. If you have an especially keen interest in St. Paul, you can walk through EUR east, and across the very busy Via Laurentina to the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane, a church built on the spot of Paul's beheading. Legend has it that when he was beheaded, his head bounced three times and in those spots, three fountains sprang up.

And while at St Paul's you must visit the gift shop and buy the liqueur made by the Benedictine monks. I was told it is walnut flavored - I couldn't say - but I do know that those of our guests we've shared it with as anafter dinner drink, want to know how they can get it. After hours of searching on line, I'm fairly certain it can only be gotten at St Paul's. Limoncello is fun, grappa delightful, but this is simply amazing!

Thanks Grinisa. A visit to the glass house and the captuured "cloud" will be a tremendous contrast to a visit to Abbazia delle Tre Fontane and Santa Maria Scala Colei. Isn't it amazing what you can find within a few feet, a couple of blocks or 2000 years in Rome? Toni. I will try the Benedictine's walnut flavored liqueur from St Paul's, the liqueur from the eucalyputus plants by the trappists monks at the Abbazina delle Tre Fontane, as will as the usual Limoncello and grappa and will undoubtably have a "fantasitic" time in Rome. LOL. Thanks. The exact metro instuctions from "jabez" will undoubtably save me money, unless I've opened the liqueur by then. The Pizza Rotounta may never be the same.. LOL.
