Best Neighbourhood for Teens

I am considering either the Hotel-de-Fleurie or the Best Western St Germain for a family trip to Paris. I am hoping to feel comfortable enough with the area to let my 14 and 16 years old do a little daytime exploring/shopping on their own (within the block) - would you recommend one of these areas over the other for this?

Dear kamark,

They are within 2 blocks of each other. One on each side of the Boul St Germaine, near the Odeon metro stop.

I don't think it matters.

I don't know either hotel, but as Ira says they're right near each other. And I'd let my teenagers go even farther than a block in those areas - the shops are always better in the next block

I agree St Cirq.

There is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to wander up and down Boul St Germain if they are healthy and normal.

Thank you - I didn't realize they were so close together (although I should have).

My 15 y/o niece loved that neighborhhod during a recent trip to Paris. We stayed at the Best Western and the neighborhood has plenty to see and do for teenagers; internet cafes, shops, restaurants, walk to Rue Rivoli or Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens (Park). The section of Boulevard St. Germain that's runs thru that neighborhhod is lined with great shops, cafes, and I considered it very safe. Obviously, they should be aware of their surroundings and be sure they have a good map with them, just in case.
