I have eaten at the Augustiner and Hoffbrau Haus and have enjoyed Spaten Beer but I am not familiar with their restaurant. Where is it? I will be in Munich next week, perhaps we can find a new favorite but it will really have to go some to beat out the Augustiner and the Andechs Am Dom.

Here's a review:
"Just a stone’s throw from the Operhaus, this prestigious restaurant offers a special opera dinner with hors d’oeuvres before the performance and the rest after. See what it costs and you might suspect the ticket price is thrown in too. Quality definitely reigns over quantity here, however, and there’s no beating old-fashioned faithfuls like filet of hare with gin and elderberry sauce or suckling pig bathed in dark beer sauce. (€12-23)"
Address : Residenzstr. 12
Tel : 290 70 60
Open daily :09:30-23:30
We just had lunch there.

Just for the record: the review Budman posted is from the Munich edition of Inyourpocket.
They are usually a most reliable source and offer more helpful info on Munich.

hsv, I'll drink to that.
I remember the restaurant was packed, and they sat us at a table for 6 with 2 other couples already half-way into their meal. They do that in Germany, and I don't really mind. One couple spoke a little English and helped us with the menu -- it was a fun experience.

Well,
those wings of hare are so delicious. I guess it's because they fly so much that they just don't get fat... ;-)
It's nice to hear that someone was able to assist with the menu. But as I seem to recall from about 6 months ago, they also had an English language menu available!

On a trip to Munich a number of years ago, one of the things - foodwise - that I remember & really liked & still would like to go back for is the sparfarkel (sp??) the white asparagus, especially in soup. It was excellent, tasty & tender. I enjoyed all German food, but especially that, but also had to have a pretzel with any type of fantastic German mustard just about every place I went. (Or maybe it was just the beer that made the mustard taste so good.) Spaetzel (sp?) was also a favorite to have with the meal. Shouldn't have started talking about this, making me hungry for those foods. Guess I will have to start planning a trip back there to satisfy my yearning.
