We will be in Munich for only one night- have been there several times before so will focus on other areas this trip.

What would people suggest for a reasonbly priced, traditional Bavarian meal if you only had one night in Munich?

Second vote for Spaten Haus, convenient location, good food and prices.

There is a very good Bavarian restaurant right on the Marienplatz. It is under the new ratthouse at the end closest to the old ratthouse.

Good beer and good basic German food for a reasonable price.

US

Adam---
The Spatenhaus is probably your best bet for Bavarian cuisine at a reasonable price. But you need to know that such cuisine isn't very spectacular; it's wholesome, filling, and somewhat heavy. If you haven't been to the Aubergine restaurant, you should go there so you can have a choice of many other items. It's the best restaurant in the city, and the prices are rather high; but it's a real dining experience. Eating at the Spatenhaus is quite OK, especially for your objective of reasonable price. I've eaten there and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a great meal at the Augustiner Keller (and great beer as well).

I agree that Spaten Haus and Augustiner Keller were both fantastic. I think my favorite of the two was Spaten Haus. My husband had a steak with a bernaise sauce that was by far the best we have ever had. Bon Appetit!

Quite a few guys that I met in Munich like Augustiner Keller and claimed it had the best beer. In fact, if you go there it seems like more people are there for the beer and not the food at all! I asked why they liked the beer there so much and they couldn't describe it, just kept saying it tasted better.

I'm not a beer drinker, so I enjoyed Pfalzer Weinstube. Actually, for FOOD, Pfalzer Weinstube was better, IMHO. mmmmmmmm

The Ratskeller under the rathaus. There are several entrances. Donsil just to the left of the Rathaus (when facing the front) is good cheap food & beer. Places listed above are also good
