We stay at the Gallery in South Kensington. It is about 2 blocks from the S. Kensington Underground and about two blocks from the Victoria and Albert Museum. It is a "town house" hotel and quite charming. You might be able to get a room for around $200, especially if you are looking for a single.

sure, I really liked the Millennium Baileys near Gloucester tube stop. I got it on Londontown for only about 110 GBP, as I recall (which was around $175). This was in August, though, perhaps not peak hotel season. see www.londontown.com for lots of good choices (there are 1-2 good Radissons around there, also).

Baileys for "only 110". I was slightly bummed out paying 85 in April after paying 75 last August. Nice hotel, good location. Also used Londontown.com Keep checking the rates change.

The Rembrandt is right across the street from the V and A, few minutes walk to Harrods, and couple minutes from SK tube station. We thought it was very nice; we had an "executive double" with a huge marble bathroom. I can't remember what we paid for it, but you might find a deal somewhere online for it.

Just make sure you get a superior room at the Rembrandt if you need air conditioning. Not all their rooms have it.
We stayed once at the Regency Hotel on Queen's Gate. It was pretty good - decent sized rooms with AC and full breakfast.
Also try Jurys Kensington, also on Queen's Gate. You can sometimes get it for 89 or 99 pounds through the hotel's site (not including breakfast). It has AC.
Or check the British Airways site. You have to pay up front but there are some OK deals, including the Rembrandt and Jurys. You can double check against other prices for the same property being offered elsewhere on the internet.

I really liked the Rembrandt a lot, everything about it.

I got a good deal there from the site hotel-assist.com (or .co, not sure). As I recall it was about GBP 120 for a superior double room including tax and breakfast.

I especially like the lobby cocktail lounge, with a fireplace and sofs - it was nice to come home to. I think this is my favorite place I've stayed in London. (In a career of 4* bargain travel.)

We stayed at MyHotel in Chelsea (less than 5 mins walk from So. Kensington tube station).

It was very modern and chic. We got a great rate through londontown.com (it was 100 GBP). The room was gorgeous and the continental brekkie was very good. Lots of neat shops and restaurants nearby (5 min walk to V&A museum, etc.).

We've stayed at several hotels in S Ken over the years. Astor House and No 16 both on Sumner Place are 2 particular favorites. We are booked at the Rembrandt and at Millenium Bailey's this fall since we got very good rates. Harrington Hall is also quite nice but larger. Kensington Moat House often runs good specials and has large rooms.

Hi Alex1251,
I've stayed at about 6 different places in London and I have to say that my most recent was The Cranley and it was the best. It's a small townhouse hotel in a very nice, quiet residential area of So. Kensington. However, you're only a few blocks from Gloucester tube station, lots of restaurants and just about anything else you need. The hotel is very nicely done in British decor with fireplace and sitting area in lobby. My room was beautiful, cozy and very clean with nicely appointed bathroom. My rate came with breakfast which is served in your room. Service was excellent and the staff very personable. One great feature was that the front door of the hotel had a buzzer system to let guests in. Made me feel very safe as I was travelling alone. Lots of great sightseeing places in the area and of course with the tube you can get to any location in London. I have also stayed at the Harrington Hall hotel in the same area and I found that to be a great hotel as well - larger but not like a huge chain hotel. You couldn't go wrong with either of these.
