Sorrento Lodging

Hello-

Is Sorrento the most central place to stay for 3 nights, along the Amalfi coast? If so, does anyone have lodging tips? We will be arriving from Naples, via train to Sorrento. 2 adults and a 12 year old. Is it better to stay in the heart of Sorrento or the outskirts?

What experiences have you had with hotels/B &Bs in the area? Do you have any specific places you would recommend OR warn to stay away from? Are there areas we should stay, due to safety?

Itinerary includes day trip to Capri, trip to Vesuvio, trip to Amalfi.
At Capri, is it possible to do the Blue Grotto tour and tour Mount Solaro in one day?

Thank you so much!!

Sorrento is not on the Amalfi coast but is on the Bay of Naples. Do you have a good map of the area?

Aside from the internet, no-no good map! However, i do see where it's on the Bay of Naples. Which is ok, as long as we can tour a bit of the AC while we are there. It seemed to be centeral to what we would like to see, however, viewing map and being there-i know, 2 different things!

What is your budget?
We liked the Antiche Mura---very centro. Also look at Casa Astarita--a B&B

Bob-

I want a nice, quiet setting for my Mom's birthday. By quiet, I mean I don't need a place that has activities onsite. I am willing to go up to $200+ USD per night, if it is prime for her. That said, she would not be comfortable in a very posh & luxurious place (I looked at 5 star hotels, those are not her venue at all. it will be her first night in Europe, ever! I want it to be special & comfortable!

We also like the www.hotelantichemura.com/en/index.htm It is so easy to get to from the train station. Just walk down a grade, perhaps less than two hundred yards on the left. While it is near the center of town , it still could be considered a quiet area.

Since 2 suggested Antiche Mura, I looked at it first! WOW!! My mom LOVES gardening & flowers, what a beautiful place for her 1st stop! I'm in love with it!!! I also LOVE the private car!!! I know, might seem like money not well spend, but what a treat for her! (and me) This hotel is gorgeous!!!!

We stayed in Sorrento and were very happy with the decision. We did day trips to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Capri, Pompeii, etc. Here's my trip report. I describe the hotel which I do recommend and also describe how we did the Blue Grotto - also recommend!
