Travelnut -- I think you are correct. When we went in 2003, we had to write our names on it, although I don't remember anyone checking them.
Thanks everyone, for your ideas. I've printed it out and started making some adjustments to our itinerary. Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

This suggestion may seem to be stating the obvious, but I'll do it anyway--
Please allow yourself enough flexibility so that your visits to Sainte Chapelle and to Chartres are on bright, sunny days. The glorious impact of the beauty of the stained glass is best, of course, when the outdoor light is streaming through the glass. You might want to bring binoculars, too.
You have planned a week that should meet the needs and expectations of each person in your party. Have a wonderful time!

by consequtive they mean you cant use a 3day pass for Mon Wed and Thu
but if you want to do Mon and Wed only thats fine. As stated prev, they only look at the start date, most places only a casual glance, very few places (Tomb & Grand Trianon iirc) they stamp it with a shape so you cant go there twice.

Jules,
We visited Chartres Cathedrale in March, and went on both tours offered that day by Malcolm Miller. As one Fodorite put it, he makes the stained glass come alive. He offers guided tours in English, Monday through Saturday at 12:00 & 2:45. Just meet in front of bookshop. I don’t recall the cost -- each tour was something like 10 EUR per person, with a discount for students.
A couple of tips for visiting the cathedral: Bring binoculars. If you plan to join Malcolm’s tour, you can email him in advance to confirm that he is offering tours on the day of your visit. [email protected]
After the 12:00 tour, we had lunch at Le Pichet (19, rue du Cheval Blanc, tel: 02-37-21-08-35), a delightful family run restaurant serving traditional French cuisine. It is one or two blocks from the cathedral. The service was friendly, and food was delicious. Lunch (three courses) for two, including a pichet of wine, was 35 EUR.
After lunch and some sightseeing in Chartres, we joined the 2:45 tour, which was different from the earlier tour and just as enjoyable.
