Count me "tentatively" in, depending on the date, of course. I'm also a San Diegan, so something down here would be great -- but the SJC idea sounds great. It'd be fun to take the train up and back (assuming there's a return trip late enough to bring us home).
Cristiana and Jocelyn, I'm your neighbor too... I'm in Spring Valley/Mt. Helix area.

Late March/early April won't work for me; we're packing up and moving to Tulsa around that time (if we can get our house sold!!!). Have fun and have a glass of Chianti for me. Unless we East County people (who knew there were so many of us?) want to have our own little party before then

Calamari - I was very interested in a Fodor's dinner party until you mentioned LA and said "Yuck". That was so uncalled for. Instead of knocking down where people live why don't you learn how to spell. Fodors not Foders

Oops. I was going to answer this, but screwed up because I have to leave for a function in about five minutes. As someone who went to S.D. State but grew up (and now lives) in the L.A. area, there is a weird bias (same with my froends in S.F.) against Los Angeles.
I will cut calamari some slack, becauser once my friends have come up here, they see what this area has to offer. I took no offense at her comments, although the "yuck" part was off base.
My S.D. friends who came up for the Rose Bowl yesterday from S.D. were part of that anti-L.A. stuff. They have seen the errors of their way, and so will others if they opened their mind.
Let bygones be bygones. Wine solves all problems. Peace. More about this when I have time.

Hello Maitai.
I think that being born and raised in L.A., I can say a big YUCK if I see fit. While it was fun growing up there I think the entire westside has gone down hill over the last 40 years, but that is just my little old opinion. Is there a restaurant you would like to have the gtg at up in L.A.?

Calamari,
I agree the West Side has gone downhill, but as a San Gabriel Valley boy, I much prefer the Pasadena area anyway. Old Town Pasadena is great, and actually downtown L.A. is much improved with the Walt Disney Hall providing the impetus.
But as I said earlier, I don't care if it is in L.A, OC or SD. I'll even go to Il Fornaio if that's selected.

Hello all. I just got back from the UK (verrrry cold) and I'd love to go to a Fodors dinner party GTG. I'm also in San Diego, in Rancho Penasquitos, so something in SD would be great. I'm up for something further north if a bunch of us get a limo, but having to drive home from either OC or LA seriously limits the number of mai tais one can consume!

What started out as great idea -- breaking bread with people who share enthusiasm for European travel -- has unfortunately turned sour with all the chatter about L.A. vs. S.D. What's next? Coke vs. Pepsi? Ford vs. Chevy? USC vs. UCLA.
I like Joy's idea: "Perhaps one in SD, one in LA, one in SJC." Sure makes sense to me.

"has unfortunately turned sour"
Actually, it hasn't turned sour. It seems everyone has a lot of opinions on this board, and this thread is another place to share them.
Calamari, since this was your idea (and a good one), why don't you pick a time and a place and it will be up to the rest of us to reply (SD or SJC seems like the logical place to hold it from all the responses).

Sure, someplace downtown would be fine. I personally don't really like Anthony's; how about Fish Market, or that place in Little Italy that maitaitom suggested? The Gaslamp has some great Italian, too. How about the weekend after Valentine's Day? Can anyone else make it?
