Small town outside of Rome
I'll be spending 4 days in Paris, then go to Versailles for the night. Prior to our arrival in Rome we wanted to spend the day and/or stay the night in a nice small town on the outskirts of Rome. Anyone have any suggestions? (We haven't decided on plane or train tansportation yet.)

I second Wayne's suggestion. I spent my first night in Frascati -- lo those many years ago -- and enjoyed my very first passagiata (sp?) and some wonderful meals. We stayed at the Hotel Flora, which was convenient to everything. It was also my first experience with Nutella and a fresh brioche -- Heaven!!

Lunarbaby,
If you come by air, I 3rd the suggestion for Frascati if you arrive at Ciampino airport. If you come into Fiumicino you might want to consider Ceri, there a neat B&B there and its not far from Cerveteri (great Etruscan site). Their website is:

Or Ostia Antica if you want to stay near the airport and want to see some historic ruins...
