Hi Isq,

I went skiing in St. Anton, near Innsbruck, in the middle of March a few years ago and it was just great. We had snow during the night, bright sunshine and comfortable temperatures during the day. It doesn't get better than that.

Early March would be my preference. The sun already should have some strength, but it will should still be cool enough for the snow to hold. And unless Easter is very early and therefore a lot of Europeans on vacation, early March should see smaller crowds than the period around the holiday.

BTW I strongly second travginny's recommendation of St. Anton. Great skiing there if you have some sporty ambitions - plus cool after ski fun!

I went with a group to Mayerhofen a few years back. It was a great village, good apres ski and food and nightlife if you could still walk after a day of skiing. There are several places close to Innsbruck maybe check prices and facilities of what you want to make up your mind.

The last week of February/beginning March is Carnival week, when a lot of European schools (including Germany) have a week holiday. It's usually a very busy week. Try to avoid that week.
