I have been reading the postings about eating alone and wondered if anyone had any good experiences eating alone in London, i.e. could recommend restaurant where they had a good experience eating alone,<BR><BR>Thanks<BR><BR>Rita

Since I'm a man, I can't say I have had directly applicable experiences, but I can tell you that all of the restaurants I've ever visited in London seemed to have single women, or small groups of women, eating there, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. In London there would be no problem at all as a lone woman in most any restaurant. I'd advise you to stay out of the more local small places and stick to those restaurants that are better known. If you are in the Covent Garden area, you might want to eat at Rules, oldest restaurant in London and a place where I have frequently seen women eating alone.

I've eaten solo many times in London, and never felt uncomfortable (maybe I just have really thick skin). Wagamama, the Japanese restaurant, is particularly easy for single diners because everyone sits together at long tables. Chains like Garfinckel's are good for a snack-type lunch or dinner - quick, recognizable, moderate prices. Tearooms are the right atmosphere for women diners; also the restaurants in the department stores. Lunchrooms and dining rooms in museums are also good places for single diners.<BR><BR>

I ate every meal alone in London for a week and never gave it a second thought. I mostly ate at local neighborhood spots around my hotel. Every dining establishment I frequented was most gracious to me as a single traveler. You shouldn't have any problems, Rita.

When I lived in London, I often spent my lunch break dining alone, as many other women do who live there. I often had lunch in a pub, where there are tons of single diners.

Hi, Rita. I just returned from a week in London and I didn't have any bad experiences eating alone. Most of the places where I ate in London weren't especially memorable so I couldn't tell you their names.

I loved eating alone at Wagamama<BR><BR> Also museum restaurants, which I love anyhow. And some museums are open some evenings, for example the Tate Modern is open to 10 on Saturday. <BR><BR> Also the little cafes at the Royal National Theatre--go to the South Bank around 6, get a ticket or get on a waiting list, and eat while you wait.

Lunch at the Wren Cafe is comfortable.Also the Crypt Cafe in the church of St Martins in the Field.<BR>Any of the small cafes in COvent Garden & Knightsbridge.There are so many ladies in London who work and eat out,you should feel quite at home<BR>Have a great time~

Sorry-PS!<BR>Indian restaurants have great atmospheres for dining alone.Maybe because the Indians are so welcoming and warm, I have enjoyed my dinners in a couple of Indian places in London,and so has my daughter.

Thanks to all for the lovely suggestions. In my planning I had come across the outdoor cafes at the Somerset House and thought that might be nice, weather permitting.<BR><BR>I will definetly be taking your suggestions with me.<BR><BR>Cheers.
