Dinner in London

We are staying with friends and would like to take them for dinner one evening. There will be six of us so I'm hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. Are restaurants much more expensive than in US cities like NY or Chicago? Which restaurants would you recommend?

London has more than half a dozen restaurants. What style of cuisine are you looking for? What is not "too expensive"?

Whenever I want to treat friends to dinner where they live, I ask them about their favorites, where they'd like to go but haven't yet, etc.

Dining is much more expensive in London, particularly with the miserable exchange rate.

You might want to go for Indian or Thai food to keep the expense down. As for specific restaurants, what part of London do they live in, or would you want to take them somewhere central?

PS There are a lot of excellent ethnic neighborhood restaurants that are much less expensive than the same sort of place in central London.

Presumably you'll want to tell your friends in advance what you plan - so why not ask them what their favourite local restaurant is and be guided by them?

I guess that would be the best idea. It would be pretty difficult for them to pick out a restaurant where we live in Chicago.
