I may be wrong but I think it's called the Port of Southampton.

The 'best' as in easiest, most comfortable is seldom the cheapest. What options have you seen and what is your budget? Also - how many of you and how much luggage??

You could take a direct National Express Coach (cheapest but priced per person and you get your bags to the coach station) , a car service (much more expensive but they schelpp the bags for you), or a couple of train options involving either a bus or train transfer which are pretty cheap but most cruise passengers have a lot (too much?? ) of luggage.

Give yourself PLENTY of time. We booked a private car once and took a bus another time but between HEAVY London traffic and a delayed flight we almost missed the boat once and our return flight another time. I thought an 8 hour cushion was plenty but it was Not.

I thought regular cruisers recommended arriving in the departure port the day BEFORE the cruise departed. At least.

I totally agree -- the OP doesn't give much info but they definitely should consider arriving in the UK at least the day before sailing.

Absolutely, and go on to the port. Stay the night nearby.

Note you don't have to stay in Southampton, you could stay in Southport, Portsmouth or even venture into the New Forest

Sorry yes Southsea, which I always assumed was pretty dull until I found the odd little fortress here and there. Porstmouth of course has lots to see. Southampton has a shopping centre.

I enjoyed staying in Winchester before embarking at Southampton with a relatively short ride by car service directly to the ship.
