Hi Irene,

Unless you are concerned about your luggage being rained on, you can achieve the same level of security by tying three cords around your suitcase and taping them in position.

It will be immediately obvious if someone has tampered with the luggage.

Yes, Fuimicino offers a shrink wrap service. I was just there yesterday and saw it.

In Barcelona the shrink wrapping service seemed to be very popular. I think the cost was about 5E. I wondered if it would even be allowed on bags going to the US.

I aggree with Ira.

The locks on luggage are a joke, there are only a few set of keys that fit everything.

You can also tape each opening , if they are removed or altered, you will know they have tampered with. If security wanted to search your luggae before loading it on the plane, all the shrink wrap would do is delay them.

The shrink-wrapping service seemed to be pretty popular at Madrid airport, also. My impression was that folks using it weren't necessarily worried about security so much as that their bags might fall apart. I have seen that happen when folks really overpacked them and they were somewhat softsided and/or old.

Sometimes I've seen luggage inside a clear, zippered plastic container. Wonder where you can buy those?

We were at the Bologna, Italy airport and watched this shrink wrapping process. Our question is....what if security wants to search. Do they take off the wrap and re-wrap???

It seemed that the wrapping was done before the passengers went up to get boarding passes.

How would that work going to USA? And where are they going to need the wrap??
