Should we stay in Sorrento or Positano?

Hello,

This is a great board! So much great advice! And I need more... would you use Sorrento as a base for the Amalfi coast (for day trips to Capri, Pompeii)or would you stay in Positano? We have 4 nights in that area and I have found two bed and breakfasts (Casa Susy in Sorrento and Pensione Maria Luisa in Positano) that are the same price and both look very nice, and so I don't know which to pick. What should we do? Would it make sense to stay two nights in each place (although I had kind of wanted to make one base place). Any suggestions on this would be great.

Hi amanda

If Capri and Pompeii are priorities, Sorrento is a more convenient base.

You can do daytrips to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello and Naples by bus, boat or train.

I suggest that before you go to Pompeii you go to the Archaeological Museum in Naples.

Thanks, ira. Why do you like the Archaeological Museum? As we are not staying in Naples, just passing through, could we do the museum in just an hour or two?

Hi Amanda,

The Archaeological Museum has artifacts and mosaics from Pompeii.

It is worth seeing to give you a better idea of what you will view when you get to Pompeii. You can easily do it in a few hours.

PS

When you get to Naples on the Circumvesuviana, look for the Metro line. You want the Cavour stop. There are signs directing you to the Museum.
