Hi Nina, we too started wearing those 99cents rubber flipflops in HS. But up here in N CA we called them thongs. Much later thongs meant the underwear and the name got changed to flipflops. I "think" in Australia they are still called thongs. Here in my area most of the females wear flipflops 9 months out of the year. Mine are all Clarks and they are so comfortable.

I've been wearing Birkenstocks with socks since I lived in Germany. That is common office wear in Germany and Holland.

Dorkiness is in the eye of the beholder.

OTOH, white tennies are gunch except on a playground or in a gym.
